A Parents' Guide to Choosing a School
1) At our school, self-regulation skills are taught, such as how to complete tasks, control behavior, and recognize personal boundaries.
2) All students are given the opportunity for content mastery instead of being rushed through the curriculum.
3) Students are taught practical things such as social skills, cooking, conversation skills, presentation skills and goal setting.
4) We all learn differently, so our school provides individualized learning opportunities. The teaching methods are designed to honor the child’s initiative, integrity, imagination and self knowledge.
5) Our school strives to instill, in each child, a sense of pride and confidence in themselves, their family and their community. It encourages and supports students in ‘going the extra mile’.
6) Our school teaches students critical thinking strategies that are relevant to everyday life; it does not simply expect students to regurgitate facts. We do not just teach to ‘the test’.
7) Our school uses misbehavior as a teaching opportunity so the student can learn how to conduct himself/herself correctly. Detention and other antiquated and inappropriate disciplinary methods are not used at this school.
8) The development of a healthy classroom culture is valued at our school. In order to learn, children must feel safe, they need the freedom to question in an environment that encourages openness and genuine interaction.
9) It is vital for children to get their daily dose of vitamin D. Our outdoor classroom environments allow our teachers the opportunity to take advantage of the outdoor space in order to expand our children’s education and love of nature.
10) Parent Education is offered at our school. The school allows to partner with their teachers and administrators to provide what is best for my child. The staff is like an extension of your family.
